YOKOHAMA, Japan - Nearly a years after its worldwide launching, Nissan is introducing the most innovative form of its unique e-POWER innovation.

First launched in Europe 4 years back, e-POWER was established to deliver an electric-drive experience without the need to plug in - combining the smooth, uncomplicated velocity and refinement of an EV with the everyday benefit of traditional combustion power.

The 3rd system has actually been comprehensively re-engineered for even better fuel performance, lower emissions and raised refinement. New e-POWER will further smooth the shift from fuel towards zero emissions.

The variety and benefit of diesel, with the improvement and responsiveness of an EV

At the heart of the e-POWER is an unique concept which provides real consumer advantages: the petrol engine is used just to create electrical power which is dispersed straight to the electric motor to drive the wheels, along with to charge the battery if required.

Unlike standard hybrids, there is no complex gearbox and coupling to combine fuel power and electrical energy to drive the wheels, meaning response is immediate and the drive is constantly smooth, much like an EV. And like an EV, the regenerative braking system on e-POWER transforms kinetic energy into electrical energy, fed back into the battery.

New e-POWER takes this idea and raises it even more to provide a best-in-class * balance of efficiency, EV-like refinement and real-world fuel efficiency - but with the range and versatility of a traditional combustion engine car.

When installed in the European Qashqai, the new, 3rd generation e-POWER brings major improvements across every key location:

Fuel intake: decreased to 4.5 L/100km (WLTP) - best-in-segment figures
equating to a prospective variety of 1200km
CO2 emissions reduced from 116g/km to 102g/km a 12% decrease compared with the present model
Cabin sound: lowered by as much as 5.6 dB compared to previous generation - using EV-like improvement
+10 kW increase in Sport Mode - delivering a more responsive and appealing drive

Comprehensive engine changes

At the core of the New e-POWER is a newly-developed 5-in-1 modular powertrain unit, which incorporates the electrical motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a compact and lighter bundle. Combined with improvements to engine calibration and sound insulation, the system lowers both noise and vibration under load. Overall, power is up by 11kW, at an optimum of 151kW. The battery capability is unchanged at 2.1 kWh.

Despite having a similar 3 cylinder 1.5-litre turbo configuration as the out-going version, the engine is brand new and is now devoted to its application in e-POWER. It adopts Nissan's exclusive STARC combustion idea, which has raised thermal performance to 42% by stabilising in-cylinder combustion - which makes it possible for the engine to operate more quietly and successfully at lower speeds. A new, bigger turbo has been fitted, which likewise brings efficiency gains, allowing a 200rpm decrease in engine speeds during highway driving, contributing to the lower overall sound level.

The variable compression ratio technology discovered on the previous version has been rendered redundant by the other changes to the engine.

Additional engine effectiveness has been produced by the change to 0W16 lubricating oil, decreasing internal friction. European customers who purchase a Qashqai will likewise appreciate the new, longer service periods which have actually been extended from 15,000 km to 20,000 km.

The net result of all the modifications to the e-POWER system is that independent testing utilizing the fuel efficiency assessment protocol from ADAC, Germany's leading automobile association, shows up to 16% much better fuel economy in real-world conditions, and 14% improvement on the highway fuel intake versus the current generation.

Eiichi Akashi, Chief information technology Officer and executive officer, Nissan Motor Corporation, stated "This brand-new, third generation e-POWER system redefines Nissan's hybrid innovation offering smooth and responsive driving in all conditions. We've embedded close to a decade of knowings to ensure the system is more efficient, more refined and more competitive. The launch with Qashqai is simply the beginning, we look forward to delivering this sophisticated powertrain to customers in North America and Japan in FY26, with other markets to follow".

In the European Qashqai, real-world variety is over 1000km on a full tank, new e-POWER goes further than lots of standard plug-in hybrids - without the need for a charging cable or waiting on a complete charge.

A smarter step towards electric

For many drivers, transferring to a completely electric vehicle still features concerns - about charging, variety, facilities, and practice modification. That's where e-POWER is available in.

With its totally electrical motor drive and no plug-in requirement, brand-new e-POWER offers a clear, confident enter energized driving - combining the smoothness and immediate action of an EV, with the familiar variety and benefit of an ICE. It delivers the experience of an electric lorry, without the perceived difficulties and common misconceptions that can still hold some motorists back from switching to fully electric.

And because the engine never powers the wheels, the driving feel is entirely electric, with no gear shifts, no power lag, and no engine noise at low speeds. Yet, unlike a battery electrical vehicle, refuelling occurs at any gas station.

By removing the complexity of change, e-POWER functions as a true shift technology - providing clients the advantages of electric movement with none of the friction. It's constructed for motorists who want something better, but not something unknown.

The most recent Qashqai equipped with brand-new e-POWER is constructed at Nissan's advanced factory in Sunderland, UK. It will be offered in European markets from September 2025 and rollout throughout Africa and Oceania in the months ahead.
